Currently serves as the President of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Director of the Guangdong Institute of Gastroenterology (Sun Yat-sen University Institute of Gastroenterology), and Director of the Department of Gastrointestinal and Anal Surgery. Specializes in the surgical treatment of challenging locally advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer, as well as complex inflammatory bowel disease.
Research and Achievements:
Led major research projects, including the National 863 Program and the National International Science and Technology Cooperation Program. Research findings have been published in internationally renowned journals such as PNAS, Advanced Science, and Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology. As a principal investigator, has been awarded the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the First Prize of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award, and the First Prize of the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award.

Contributions to Medical Aid in Xinjiang
From June 2021 to April 2023, Professor Wu Xiaojian served as the leader of the Guangdong Province "Group-style" Medical Aid Team to Xinjiang, taking on the role of President of the First People's Hospital of Kashgar Prefecture (referred to as "Kashi First Hospital").
During 2021–2022, Kashi First Hospital completed the application for 478 research projects at various levels, with 146 projects approved, equivalent to the total number of applications and approvals in previous years. In 2022, the hospital secured its first two National Natural Science Foundation projects and its first National Key Research and Development Program project. The annual referral rate decreased from 4.8% in 2018 to 0.18%.
For his outstanding contributions, Professor Wu Xiaojian was awarded the title of "Outstanding Medical Aid Talent" by the Guangdong Province Frontline Command for Aid to Xinjiang in 2022, and the title of "Outstanding Medical Aid Talent of the 10th Batch of Provincial and Municipal Aid Teams" by the Party Committee and People's Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 2023, along with a commendation for meritorious service.
